Charlotte RFC traveled to Atlanta for two games of hard hitting rugby on a beautiful October Saturday. The first game kicked off at 2:30pm and Charlotte stormed out to an early 12-0 lead. Charlotte attacked with excellent support play and used brilliant offloads to put Old White on the back foot early.

Looking to make a play and steal back the momentum, Mike Aaron read the Charlotte back line and shot in, intercepting the ball and breaking Charlotte’s line. Mike was caught about 10 meters short of the try line near the right side. The ball was quickly passed out of the ruck to the left to Metro. Reading the defensive line, Metro saw OW had numbers on the short side so quickly reversed the ball back to the right to Sebrin, who offloaded to Woods who scored untouched. Metro’s kick conversion was good.

The second half was all Old White. Working off a lineout from 5 meters out, the Old White pack was able to pick and drive their way to the try line, with Shaun Hunt finally putting it over in the far left corner. Even though the conversion was taken less than a meter from the touch line, Metro put the ball squarely through the uprights to give Old White the lead for good. 14-12. Minutes later, fly-half Ewald kicked ahead. Rob Mini-McFeaters caught up to the ball after the first bounce and came down with it amidst three Charlotte players. Mini-McFeaters offloaded to a hard charging Mike Aaron, who weaved his way to finish the try. Metro’s boots kept their magic and Old White moved ahead 21-12.

The final try of the day might have been the prettiest. Mike Aaron moved the ball out to Mini-McFeaters, who then cut hard inside and laid out a beautiful no-look pop to a looping Alvin Chen. Alvin sent the ball out once more to Woods to score in the corner. Again the conversion from the corner proved no match for Metro and his red slippers. Old White 28, Charlotte 12.

In the second match, Old White emerged victorious again by a score of 12-0. In the first half, Alan scored his first try in an Old White jersey Neil Edwards on a forward pick and drive was able to touch down the ball on the try line giving Ben “Little Metro” Winiarczyk a tricky conversion. Fortunately, Little Metro borrowed Metro’s boots and put the conversion over.
